Today is Ash Wednesday; the beginning of Lent. Lent is the 40 weekdays from Ash Wednesday until Easter that is observed by Christians as a season of fasting and penitence in preparation for Easter. The first year that I participated I gave up sweets, the next year meat, then coffee. Last year I gave up sweets again, but before Lent was half over with, I messed up and had cookies at an office meeting. I really felt bad, so I abandoned participating in Lent for the rest of the duration. However, this year, I'm trying to make up for it, so I gave up coffee and sodas.
Do you particpate in Lent? If so, what did you fast from?
Holla back!
I have never done the Lent thing, but I give props to people that can.
ReplyDeleteI think coffee and soda will be easier then cookies. Those are impossible to put down lol.
@JLuntz,
ReplyDeleteDepending on what you are giving up determines how well you will survive the 40 day fast from it. You don't have to give up food. You can give up anything that you do or have regularly. One of my friends is giving up Facebook. For some that might not be a big thing, but to her, it is, because she is on it every day.
p.s. you are right about the cookies!!!
Hello Adele,
ReplyDeleteI hope you will succeed in giving up coffee and sodas for Lent. You can do it!
Thanks Barbara,
ReplyDeleteIt was hard at first, because I got that caffeine headache (the one you get when you come off cafeine), but I worked through it! Thanks for your reply.
I noticed that your blog has changed a lot since you first created the blog. I like that you changed the background and pictures. Personally, I like the change but feel that your original background was perfect for the serious part of Lent. Lent is a somber time and presents more of a serious feel. I did feel that the blog could link the ideas presented in our class to the topic of Lent. It would require more work but it could keep topics flowing or you could at least show how the post relate to a day in your life. I also wish that there was more on there about how you are doing with your sacrifice for lent.
ReplyDeleteEven though I don't personally know you, I have been praying that you are blessed during this Lent season and that you grow spiritually during this time. God bless you.
Hi Jody! Yeah, I changed it not so much as to stay with the blog post for Lent, as it was my first post, but to go along with the media technology blog posts that came afterward. I didn't know how to change the background but maintain the same one for Lent. I am still doing well with my 2 sacrifices in giving up soda and coffee. It's a struggle some days, especially in the afternoon, because I get sleepy; so I just either chew gum or take a walk or a combination of the both. Thank you for remembering me during this season of Lent. God Bless you too!
